Position Overview
West Shore Parks & Recreation is seeking adventurous individuals to create the afterschool care fun, right here in the Westshore for all our awesome kids! Join us and help us deliver a variety of exciting recreation opportunities to the children of the Westshore. Our leaders put together daily and weekly recreational activities, focusing on providing children 5 to 12 years of age with the opportunity to cultivate friendships, experience a wide variety of sports, games, arts, crafts, special events and develop lifetime skills. In addition to good wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; access to counseling; a staff facility passes to drop into the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool; as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.
Job Duties & Accountabilities
- This position is responsible for participating as a leader in the program; planning, implementing, and evaluating working with a small team.
- Adaptable to new and changing programs and people.
- Ability to problem-solve and seek solutions.
- Communication and organizational skills required.
- Imaginative and flexible personality required to ensure a fun environment for participants.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must enjoy working in an indoor and outdoor environment.
Qualifications
- As a licensed care program, candidates must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
- Minimum 180 hours previous experience leading school age children (aged 5-12 yrs).
- 20 hours of proof of workshops/training courses is required.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C certification is required.
- Skills, knowledge, and experience with specific areas such as physical literacy, arts, crafts and drama are required.
- Post-secondary training in recreation, youth, childcare, or a related field is an asset.
- CLASS 4* unrestricted drivers’ licence is an asset and candidates with a CLASS 4* will be given preference.
A clear and current criminal record check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
