HOURS OF WORK: |
Up to 9 weeks during the summer starting June 30th, 2025. Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per day. Hours of work for all positions are subject to program registration. Must be available for training hours some evenings and weekends during the month of June. Dates are “To Be Determined”. |

SUMMARY: Do you remember your favorite camp leader? Did someone inspire you to imagine or spark your curiosity? West Shore Parks & Recreation is seeking adventurous individuals to create the best summer right here in the Westshore for all our kids! Join us and help deliver a variety of exciting recreation opportunities for children of the Westshore. We currently have a number of positions available at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre and Centennial Centre. Our camp leaders put together daily and weekly recreational activities, focusing on providing children and/or youth 5 to 14 years of age with the opportunity to cultivate friendships, experience a wide variety of sports, games, arts, crafts, special events and develop lifetime skills. In addition to good wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; a staff facility pass to drop into the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool; as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.
JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Skills, knowledge, and experience with specific areas such as sports, arts, crafts, youth leadership and drama are required for some positions.
- Communication and organizational skills required.
- Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment is created for participants.
- Customer service and public relations skills required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of team.
- Must enjoy working in an indoor or outdoor environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 180 hours of direct experience planning and implementing programs for children and/or youth in a public recreation setting.
- Current Emergency First Aid & CPR (CPR Level B minimum requirement but CPR C Preferred).
Note – CPR B is the minimum requirement for working in childcare positions. If applying for positions at WSPR outside of childcare, CPR C may be required.
Preferred Certificates:
The following certifications are an asset to these positions and preference may be given to candidates holding one or more of these:
- Responsible Adult Certificate
- CLASS 4* unrestricted drivers’ licence
- HIGH FIVE certification
- Training in Physical Literacy (Physical Literacy 101, NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, Movement Preparation)
A clear and current criminal record check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
Candidates with a combination of skills and experience other than those listed above may be considered.
