SUMMARY: Come be a part of the new skatepark park. Be an ambassador for the sport you love and help lead the way for new skatepark users in the Westshore. West Shore Parks & Recreation is seeking individuals who wish to share their passion for skateboarding, scootering, and cycling to create the best environment ever at the newest skatepark on Vancouver Island. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to lead our intro to skateboarding programs. Provide guidance and leadership during peak hours of usage at the park with assistance in park etiquette, and create an inclusive, fair play and safe environment. Build and maintain positive relationships with youth.
In addition to good wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; access to counseling; a staff facility pass to drop into the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool; as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.
JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Skills, knowledge, and experience with specific areas such as skateboarding, scootering, cycling and Physical Literacy.
- Communication and organizational skills required.
- Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment is created for participants.
- Ensure the physical environment is clean and suitable for the operation of the park.
- Enforce skatepark rules and regulations in a positive, professional manner, and implement behavior management strategies when needed.
- Customer service and public relations skills required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must enjoy working in an outdoor environment.
- Experience leading programs.
- Provide first aid treatment when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 180 hours of direct experience planning and implementing programs for youth and/or skateboard instruction in a public recreation setting.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C/AED is required prior to commencing employment.
- Skateboarding expertise and training through Canada Skateboard, as well as teaching experience.
- Training via Canada Skateboard, Safe Sport and Tech Deck Start Pushing training programs is an asset, training opportunities may be provided.
- Training in Physical Literacy (Physical Literacy 101, HIGH FIVE, NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, Movement Preparation) is an asset, training opportunities may be provided.
- Background and experience playing, leading, or coaching sports and/or skateboarding would be an asset.
A clear and current criminal record check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
