$22.60 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $25.76 (Jan 2025 rate)

$22.83 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $26.02 (July 2025 rate)

CLASSIFICATION: JB05, Program Instructor III 
HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday, 8:30AM to 12:30PM; June 30th to August 22nd, 2025. All hours are dependent on registration. Opportunities for additional subbing hours.

Must be available for training hours some evenings and weekends during the month of June. Dates are “To Be Determined”.

SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Daycare and Preschool Programmer, the Nature Preschool Camp Leader will work with another Nature Preschool Camp Leader to plan, organize, and implement an outdoor-based preschool curriculum for the development of children ages 3-5 years in the Westshore. The entire program takes place in designated outdoor spaces on the JDF recreation centre property and other outdoor spaces throughout the Westshore. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a love of nature, the environment, a willingness, and ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather including heat, wind, or rain every class. Leaders must also demonstrate the ability to communicate with parents, staff, and children in a friendly and effective manner, and should possess independent judgment and demonstrate initiative in resolving problems.

 

JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist with delivering a program which promotes social experiences for children in a natural, outdoor setting.
  • Promote and deliver safe, healthy, positive interactions, communications, diversity and learning opportunities.
  • Promote and enhance creative ideas in all program areas such as arts & crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science and nature, and sports with a focus on nature and the environment in a natural, outdoor setting.
  • Ensure set up and clean-up of learning spaces and equipment, materials and supplies are completed before and after each class.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are maintained with respect to safety and sanitary standards.
  • Provide a balance of active and passive activities in a safe environment.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, children, and staff.
  • Responsible to oversee and coordinate the daily sign-in and sign-out procedure to ensure safety practices are followed for release of children from program.
  • Problem-solving minor issues independently conferring with supervisor regarding progress concerns and recommendations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with preschool children in a licensed childcare or recreation setting.
  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR (CPR Level B minimum requirement but CPR C Preferred).

Note – CPR B is the minimum requirement for working in childcare positions. If applying for positions at WSPR outside of childcare, CPR C may be required.

  • Experience mitigating risks for young children in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather including heat, wind, rain, etc.
  • Ability to walk up to 1 km per day.
  • Ability to problem-solve, work independently, or as an effective team member.
  • Ability to be creative and flexible while providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment.
  • Communication, customer service, and public relations experience.
  • The ability to problem-solve, prioritize while demonstrating good organizational skills.
  • Outgoing and energetic personality.
  • Must have a valid class 5 BC drivers’ licence, and reliable transportation to travel to different locations to teach, bring class supplies and safety gear.
  • ECE or ECEA would be an asset.
