$22.60 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $25.76 (Jan 2025 rate)

$22.83 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $26.02 (July 2025 rate)

CLASSIFICATION: JB05, Program Instructor III 
HOURS OF WORK:

Up to 9 weeks during the summer starting June 30th, 2025. Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per day. Hours of work for all positions are subject to program registration. Must be available for training hours some evenings and weekends during the month of June. Dates are “To Be Determined”. 

This role will primarily be covering vacation and sick calls. The number of hours of work will vary week to week.

SUMMARY: West Shore Parks & Recreation is looking for exceptional summer staff to deliver a variety of exciting recreation opportunities for children of the Westshore. We currently have a number of positions available at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre and Centennial Centre. The Summer Camp SUB Leaders will provide coverage to Leaders who develop, plan, and implement daily and weekly recreational activities, focusing on providing children and/or youth 5 to 14 years of age with opportunities to cultivate friendships, experience a wide variety of sports, games, arts, crafts, special events and develop lifetime skills. In addition to good wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; access to counseling; a staff facility pass to drop into the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool; as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.

 

JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Skills, knowledge, and experience with specific areas such as sports, arts, crafts, drama are required for some positions.
  • Communication and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment is created for participants.
  • Customer service and public relations skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must enjoy working in an indoor or outdoor environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • For Licensed Summer Camp Program Leaders must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
  • Minimum of 180 hours of direct experience planning and implementing programs for children and/or youth in a public recreation setting.
  • 20 hours of proof of workshops/training courses (ex: Responsible Adult Certificate).
  • CLASS 4* unrestricted drivers’ licence is an asset.
  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR (CPR Level B minimum requirement but CPR C Preferred).

Note – CPR B is the minimum requirement for working in childcare positions. If applying for positions at WSPR outside of childcare, CPR C may be required.

 

Preferred Certificates:

 The following certifications are an asset to these positions and preference may be given to candidates holding one or more of these:

  • Responsible Adult Certificate
  • CLASS 4* unrestricted drivers’ licence
  • HIGH FIVE certification
  • Training in Physical Literacy (Physical Literacy 101, NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, Movement Preparation)
