80 hours bi-weekly, 5 consecutive days a week, 6:00AM to 2:30PM and must include Saturday and Sunday shifts. The remainder of the shifts and consecutive days off will be dependent on the successful candidate. Shifts will vary based on organizational needs and will include weekends or evenings depending on event or staffing levels. |

Position Overview
The Parks Technician works closely with the Parks Supervisor to ensure the effective maintenance and operation of parks and outdoor spaces. This is a hands-on position, working alongside the parks crew while supporting leadership responsibilities and promoting teamwork.

Job Duties and Accountabilities
Maintenance & Operations
- Maintains and cares for all park assets, including golf courses, sports fields, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs, flower beds, waterways, trails, service roads, walkways, and associated infrastructure.
- Maintains safe and clean facilities for patrons.
- Plans and implement pesticide and fertilizer applications.
- Assists with construction and maintenance in the park setting, dealing with contractors for operational and capital projects.
- Performs minor maintenance on specialized equipment for fleet.
- Oversees workflows, tools, and electronic processes.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Assists with daily direction, task organization, and workflow coordination.
- Leads morning crew talks and assists with daily and weekly work planning.
- Provides guidance and support to staff while promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Helps with recruitment activities, onboarding processes, and training sessions for new employees.
- Provides support in coaching and mentoring staff, including gathering feedback for performance reviews.
- Helps during Parks Supervisor absences to maintain continuity of operations.
Administrative Support
- Assists with scheduling, project planning, and prioritizing work assignments.
- Supports health and safety initiatives and assist with payroll.
- Attends committee meetings when needed.
- Prepares and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Participates in budget preparation and expenditure tracking
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in parks and recreation, including sports field maintenance.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience with unionized teams.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
- Valid pesticide applicator certificate IPM is required.
- WHMIS certification and knowledge of safe handling of chemicals is required.
- Irrigation Industry Association of BC Technician Level 1 & 2 or equivalent experience and complexity.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite
- Familiarity with industry software facility maintenance, payroll, irrigation, MyTurf
- Ability to calculate chemical and fertilizer application rates.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to promote teamwork and maintain positive relationships.
- Sound judgment and ability to work independently.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform required duties.
