Up to 10 weeks staring June 29, 2026, Monday to Friday for up to 8 hours a day.

Successful candidates must be available for some evening and weekend training in June; dates to be determined.

Position Overview

We're looking for friendly and enthusiastic people to help create a fun summer for children aged 7 to 14. As a Skatepark Specialist, you will teach skateboarding skills, lead games and activities, and help campers feel safe, welcome, and included. Your goal is to help kids make friends, try new things, and have a great time at camp.

Employees also receive access to counselling and a staff facility pass, which provides drop-in use of the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, the pool and our 9-hole golf course.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  • Leads beginner skateboarding programs, teaching skills such as warming up, stretching, balancing, proper foot placement, pushing, turning, stopping and safe falling techniques in a supportive and encouraging manner.
  • Provides instruction on skateboard equipment, gear maintenance, and skatepark safety and etiquette.
  • Enforces skatepark rules and regulations in a positive, professional way, using behavior management strategies when needed.
  • Acts as a positive role model for the program by showing respect and encouraging teamwork.
  • Ensures the skatepark and its equipment are clean and safe to use, reporting any hazards or concerns promptly.
  • Provides first aid treatment when necessary.
  • Supports smooth sign-in and sign-out and completes required documentation (attendance logs, incident reports).
  • Adapts to changing plans or situations, and modifies activities to suit different ages, needs and abilities.
  • Ensures children of all skill levels feel safe, included, and supported.
  • Follows all safety, privacy, and emergency procedures.
  • Communicates respectfully, and builds positive relationships with campers, families and coworkers.
  • Works outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, and light rain.
  • Performs tasks of similar scope and complexity as required.

Qualifications

  • Skills, knowledge, and experience with specific areas such as skateboarding, scootering, cycling or a related crossover sport (surfing or snowboarding).
  • Background and experience playing, leading, or coaching sports and/or skateboarding is an asset.
  • Knowledge of skatepark safety and proper equipment use.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience and ability to lead activities and support groups.
  • Customer service and public relations skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather including heat, wind, rain, etc.
  • At least 180 hours of experience planning and implementing programs for youth and/or skateboard instruction in a public recreation setting.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR C certificate is required
    • Note: CPR B is the minimum requirement for working in childcare positions. If applying for position at WSPR outside of childcare, CPR C may be required.

Preferred certifications (assets):

  • Responsible Adult certificate.
  • HIGH FIVE ® certificate.
  • Canada Skateboard certification.
  • Safe Sport, or Tech Deck Start Pushing training.
  • CLASS 4* unrestricted drivers' license.
  • Training in physical literacy (Physical Literacy 101, NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, Movement Preparation).
