Position Overview
We're seeking motivated individuals to join our Parks department for the summer. Under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor, and with guidance from the Horticulturist, Assistant Greenskeeper, and other parks and golf staff, the Summer Park Attendant performs a variety of routine park and golf maintenance tasks to support the safe, clean, and efficient operation of our parks and outdoor recreation facilities during the summer season.
In addition to great wages, employees receive access to counselling services and a staff membership pass. This pass provides drop-in access to the weight room, fitness classes, skating, pool, and our 9-hole golf course.
Job Duties and Accountabilities
- Performs routine garbage pick-up and general grounds maintenance.
- Waters plans by hand, trims and mows grass, assists with garden up-keep and operates maintenance equipment as directed.
- Completes tasks of a manual nature by use of hand-operated tools.
- Conducts clean up and maintenance of various parks/golf facilities in preparation or follow-up from special events.
- Responds to basic inquiries and concerns from park users in a positive, courteous and effective manner.
- Attend staff training sessions and monthly departmental staff meetings.
- Adheres to all departmental and industry policies and safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties of similar scope and complexity as required.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent; preference will be given to applicants enrolled in post-secondary education, particularly horticultural or related studies.
- A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
- Emergency First Aid with CPR C/AED is an asset.
- BC Pesticide Applicators certification is an asset.
- Physically fit and able to perform routine, repetitive and physical outdoor tasks in all types of weather conditions.
- Demonstrated experience in grounds maintenance in a parks/golf atmosphere.
- Good time-management skills with the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions within assigned timeframe(s).
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
- Ability to operate standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
