Position Overview
We're seeking dedicated individuals to play a key role in supporting the care and maintenance of our parks and outdoor facilities. Under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor, the Parks Maintenance Worker I performs routine maintenance of landscape and assists in the development and maintenance of fields, lawn bowling areas, park and facilities. Job Duties and Accountabilities
- Maintains landscape areas, including fertilizing, mowing and watering lawns, planting, weeding and pruning garden areas (seasonally dependent).
- Maintains trails, including clearing overgrown areas, leaf clearing, cleaning culverts and ditches, sign posting and repairs.
- Prepares and cares for grounds, playing fields surfaces required for various sporting events.
- Assists in the construction and repairs in golf course, lawn bowls, park and golf areas.
- Operates small power tools and equipment such as push lawnmowers, weed eaters, chain saws and pickup trucks.
- Enforces Park regulations while providing helpful information to park and golf users.
- Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner and meets parks standards and regulations.
- Operates equipment necessary to complete all tasks.
- Participates in weekly yard and shop clean up and washing of vehicles.
- Assists other park crews when directed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school graduation, preferably supplemented by completion of technical courses related to park operations.
- One-year equivalence of work experience in a golf course and parks setting is required, with a demonstrated interest in parks work.
- A valid BC class 5 driver’s license is required.
- Physically fit and able to perform routine, repetitive and physical outdoor tasks in all types of weather conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions within assigned timeframe(s).
- Ability to operate various hand tools and motorized equipment.
- BC Pesticide Applicators and First Aid/CPR C certificates are considered an asset.
